At home videos (i.e. DVD, laser disc, VHS, reel-to-reel, snuff),
Ringtones, Internet & Downloads (i.e. iTunes, Napster)
Sampling & Parodies (i.e. hip-hop sampling, Wierd Al/Dr. Demento)
Video games (& other toys)
Movie, TV & Radio (including advertising, sports games, MTV videos)
Karaoke
& of course, sheet music (i.e. printed, pdf, papyrus)
& much more (including things not yet invented)
Publishing is the primary income for many musicians ...
such as lyricists Jim Steinman, Bernie Taupin & Broadway composers,
& musicians who no longer perform but albums still sell
such as Queen, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, etc.
As a publisher RMM manages these uses & others that come up.
i.e. You as the copyright owner get the final okay,
while RMM handles the "paperwork" & expenses
Every situation is unique & so is every licensing/publishing contract,
thus to go into details here would be no less than to write a whole book.
I'm happy to recommend some, but I've got other more interesting books to write.
Basically, you need to publish your work to have control over it's usage & earn money.

THE SMALL PRINT: At this time RMM can ONLY represent BMI registered artists (sorry ASCAP & SESAC folks),
so you will either have to be registered with BMI or not registered at all
to work with RMM concerning performance royalties.
